Where you just sit down and talk nonsense all day long, crack jokes, snap random photos, run up to random strangers and tap them on the shoulder just to smile at them, wear springy Christmas hats, speak chinese.
And well, just have fun.

Home!
23 December 2008Well that's the thing about home - you can be away for so long: days, weeks, months, or even years. But once you get back, it's as though you have never left in the first place.

Promo: LOUD Christmas!
10 December 2008This face will ring a bell in most of your heads.
Many apologies for the very unflattering picture but it was the most not-unflattering picture I could find from her website.
Well the look aside, Juwita Suwito has always been THE local artist for me. Ever since seeing her performing in HUGE Camp way back in 2004, I have tried downloading a few tracks that she sung (I only managed to download one in the end), and I thought that she was pretty good!
So after saving up an amount of cash, I bought her first album - titled Brand New World in 2005 for Rm28. If you knew me then, I would've rather skinned myself than to spend that kind of money on anything, but I bought it, and I was definitely not disappointed with her amazing vocal performance on that CD.
"If there were singers, there were singers. Juwita Suwito is more than a singer, songwriter and overall superstar to many.. she's also a friend. Thanks for never forgetting us Juwita! Your fan, stan. I mean JFK"
- JFK (Hitz.FM)
Well, after a period of being on hiatus(?), I finally saw her again, this time right at my doorstep - in HSG's International Music Night. There, she sang her awesome power-packed rendition of Rihanna's Umbrella, which I am still desperately trying to find it on youtube, imeem - everywhere! up until now.
And who would have guessed that four months down the road, I will be seeing her again, at the same place?
This December 19th, Juwita Suwito is in the house, performing live at HSG KL! With tickets priced dirt cheap at Rm8 - Rm15, you have GOT to be kidding me if you say you would rather be doing something else.
And of course, the other notable artist who will be in the same place, performing alongside Juwita is our homegrown R&B artist, Liang.
It's a little tricky to find his name if you google it up, because of many other well-known figures like Guang Liang or even Zhuge Liang. But from what I have heard, he is one of Malaysia's more prominent artists.
Liang has won the AIM award, which is the highest honors in music as far as Malaysia is concerned. Well, if he can win that, he has to be something, right?
I personally am not such a big fan of R&B music, but you can still check out his music video, and you decide for yourself.
This December 19th: Loud Christmas... It ain't going to be a silent night.

It's the 6th day
And I'm still home alone!
What is wrong with the world?!! AHHHHHH!!
Well, according to elder sis, dad's confirmed coming back today, but the rest of them are going to be half here and half there, so they're not even sure if they want to come back and save me from eating out again or not.
But overall, I feel pretty proud of myself for surviving the past 6 days! Over the almostweek, I've learnt to:
1. COOK!
2. Clean up other people's mess. Pffpth, melancholy me coming up from within.
3. Sleep alone in an otherwise empty house. Well to be honest, I was just too freaking tired to do anything else but crash. But it counts okay!
4. Do my own laundry! I officially hate ironing clothes by the way. I need more clothes that require minimum ironing. Ish.
5. Do SOMETHING apart from being online for 6 hours straight in a single day.
6. Play cash flow!
7. I would've added something here but I'll kill myself before I let any of you know about it.
8. Read fast! I can read 1.8 times faster than the average human with the same comprehension rate. Heh heh heh.
I feel so accomplished =)

Me & McDonalds
07 December 2008Fine, so I'm too lazy to cook my own dinner.
I was just calling McDonalds' delivery service earlier, and they put me on the usual annoying waiting tone. And it was interesting because the conversation went something like this.
Pre-recorded voice: Please be notified that your call will be used for training and monitoring purposes as we continue to serve you better. Please hold while we place your call in queue.
*annoying music plays*
*annoying music loops*
Pre-recorded voice: I'm sorry, all of our call agents are busy at the moment. Please hold on.
*annoying music plays again*
*annoying music loops again*
Pre-recorded voice: I'm sorry, all of our call agents are still busy. Please hold on.
*annoying music again*
*loops again*
Pre-recorded voice: Traffic is very heavy at the moment. Thank you for your patience.
*annoying music plays*
And FINALLY! someone picked up my call! You have got to love McDonalds for that. The best part about the whole event was that after I placed my order and put down the phone, I suddenly received a call on my handphone only a few minutes later.
Guy from McDonalds: Hello Mr Joseph, we are sorry but we seem to be sold out of what your ordered for.

Whoo!
05 December 2008iThink...
Therefore iCook.
If you remember some time ago, I attempted to put burger patties into bread instead of the burger bun.
Didn't turn out too well.
I had always been intrigued by cooking: How was it that those people in restaurants can cook with seemingly the same things i use to cook at home, and theirs always taste better?
When the mamak guy cooks Maggi Goreng, it always turns out well.
When I cook Maggi Goreng, it becomes a blackened lump of viscous, sticky... thing.
When Pastor Cheah cooks fish, the plate is licked clean.
When I cook fish... well actually i've never dared to try.
So about an hour ago I was in a dilemma: Order McDs, Order Nandos, or heat up last night's food?
McDs is not filling enough, Nandos demand that I order mroe than Rm25 worth before they're willing to deliver it over here, and last night's food... is, well, last night's food.
So inspired by a Nando's recipe, I decided to try my hand at making cheese-baked rice. No one's at home, so no one's gonna complain ahahaha.
After a lot of pots and pans and cackling oil later, my cheese-fried rice came out! Yeah, I know it was supposed to be cheese-baked rice, but the oven is so worn out that I don't know which knob is which anymore. I figured that frying is just as good as baking.
Well what to say... it came out much better than I expected it to! =D Apart from the overwhelming cheesiness (or is it supposed to taste like that?) it turned out to be a great meal! =)
I'm gonna cook again tomorrow! Ahaha run younglings run

My family is leaving tomorrow at 9am (says my mom. I bet they're going to leave at 11am earliest gahahaha) for Bekok in Johor until Tuesday afternoon.
And I'll be left all alone! *audience gasp*
Well on the bright side, I can start doing all those things that I should have been doing through the week. One of which includes me finding something to wear for prom!

More great movies!
28 November 2008Over the past 48 hours I have been on a movies spree. Some of my personal reccomendations, and why you should watch it too! =)
1. Liar Liar
It's quite an old movie (1997) about a guy who cannot tell a single lie, not even a teeny-weeny little white lie for 24 hours! Sounds interesting? =P An awesome movie. It's Jim Carrey after all!
2. Get Smart
Four words: Anne Hathaway is sexy.
Lol! Just kidding =P Though she is lar. A very very fun movie, sesuai untuk tontonan umum =)
3. The Reading Room
This one's about an entrepreneur who gives up his business to start a reading room to help the people living in a notorious part of town. The storyline may be a tad bit too slow for some, but a very heart-warming movie nontheless. Watch it if you've nothing better to do or just for some feel-good moments.
Till I watch more movies,

Windows Live Writer?
18 November 2008This shall be my first post. My very very first post editing directly from Windows Live Writer Beta.
If you have no idea what that is, I understand. Just a few days ago I was on Kennysia.com, and he said something like “Bill Gates told me to tell you that the new Windows Live Messenger is awesome, so go and download it”
Well, so I did.
The new messenger looks awesome, alright – after quite a bit of customization. While I was trying to install it, came a whole flurry of other programs that wanted to be downloaded together with it as well.
Windows Live Toolbar… nah.
Windows Live Phonecall… nah.
Windows Live Video Conferencing… nah.
Then I saw this thing called Windows Live Writer, and I was curious, of course. So I took a look at it and it said it will help me create beautiful blog posts. It was only about 20MB, so I tried it out.
So what do you all think?
PS. This entry was written and published at 6pm Malaysian time, I’m setting it to appear tomorrow. So let’s see if this works. Shall elaborate more on its features AKA what can it do that blogger cannot when I have used it to its fullest extent.

Ipoh!
14 November 2008We all love Ipoh. Well, us being us, we love it mainly for the food there.
So I was there two weeks ago with my family, and I was half-expecting my dad to drive up to a relative's house where we are going to stay for the next 3/4 days because it's cheap lodging, but no! We came in front of this super canggih-looking hotel that even has the red carpet rolled out for us!
Okay, I didn't get a picture of the carpet. But the hotel was cenggih okay! You know things are going to get interesting when the first thing you see once entering the hotel doors are two escalators.
They're so canggih, even their security cameras looks canggih.
Even their rooms use scanners!
Okay, the canggih-ness aside, the hotel had this weird and wonderful collection of various sculptures and whatever the heck you call those ancient artistry things.
By the way, everyone meet John. John is my younger brother. John is camera-shy, and John likes to read Doraemon comics.
Using his free time, John likes to sexually harass wooden statues of ancient chinese warriors.
We had one ball of a time just checking out the stuff around the hotel lobby area. Even the receptionist was so thrilled to see us.
Service with a smile! =D
Oh, and if some of you remembered my sister's tortoises that went missing, I think I've found them.

Ordinary Miracles
30 October 2008So you see that I've added a new tab to my entries.
Well how do I say this... I feel that it is something very practical and very, very relevant especially in today's world. Amidst all the gloom, doom and bloom, we need something that we can hold on to - something that we can look upon and it sheds light into our vision, giving hope for tomorrow.
We need something that we can look back upon and really know that God is indeed good. We need the assurance that no matter what happens, there are these little moments that we can take and draw inspiration from.
Because there comes a time when you need to stop and smell the roses. No one has ever conquered Mount Everest and not take in the view from the summit. No one has ever took to the skies without gazing out into the clouds in wonder.
Write your worries in sand; carve your blessings on stone.
*
It’s not that unusual
When everything is beautiful
It’s just another ordinary miracle today
The sky knows when its time to snow
Don’t need to teach a seed to grow
It’s just another ordinary miracle today
Life is like a gift they say
Wrapped up for you everyday
Open up and find a way
To give some of your own
Isn’t it remarkable
Like every time a rain drop falls
It’s just another ordinary miracle today
Birds in winter have their fling
But always make it home by spring
It’s just another ordinary miracle today
When you wake up everyday
Please don’t throw your dreams away
Hold them close to your heart
Cause we’re all a part
Of the ordinary miracle
Ordinary miracle
It seems so exceptional
That things just work out after all
It’s just another ordinary miracle today
Sun comes up and shines so bright
And disappears again at night
It’s just another ordinary miracle today

Let me tell you a story
28 October 2008Last Thursday I was sitting in a cab. Yes, the ones sporting the yellow "Jemput Naik" stickers. So I was sitting on the cab, trying to get back from Carrefour to HSG.
Four of us in the car, the rain drizzling outside the cab. The driver was a pretty nice guy. Loud, but nice anyway. He was cracking some jokes in BM which I didn't quite understand but ah, laugh with him anyway.
And this was the plan: we drop people off one by one, but we pay the accumulated fees only when the last person gets off, to cut cost lar. Then halfway through the journey, taxi driver suddenly said,
"You know, actually it's legal to reset the meter whenever someone gets off. It's legal, know?? I'm not cheating you! If I wanted to cheat you, I would just tell you, 'TWENTY RINGGIT!' and you'll have to pay me that much. But I don't like cheating people, so people don't cheat me also!"
And he burst out laughing again.
Well because SOMEONE *cough*Sean*cough* didn't want to pay some extra Rm5, I had to start walking from the Parkson area all the way to HSG - it was about a 30 minutes walk.
Then so happen this girl found out that she'd left her wallet on the taxi. IC, cards, cash - all inside. All lost.
Then one day, as she said it, "An angel appeared at my front door". Because right there was taxi driver, with her wallet, delivering it right to her personally.
An excerpt from Evan Almighty:
God: How do you change the world?
Evan: One single act of random kindness at a time.
You can be a hero. Heroes do what's right.

Raindrops keep falling on my head
20 October 20082 hours ago.
I was buying food from this mamak near Saujana, and the rest of the CF people were chatting away around the table while waiting for my food to arrive.
And so I noted.
"Err... you notice that the sky is turning very dark, very quickly?"
Ah, that got their brains working. So they all ditched me and ran off in the direction of Isaac's house. I got my food, turned back to get a plastic fork, stepped out on to the road-
And the heavens opened. In a non-spiritual way.
Cut the drama, we all made it into Isaac's place, soaked and everything, and after we have eaten and had a change of clothes...
THE SKY CLEARED UP!
Not only the rain stopped, the sun started shining all so brightly as though nothing happened. We got caught in a friggin' 10 minutes-long maddening downpour, got soaked to our bones, and the sky clears up!
Whoever said God does not have a sense of humour, they were wrong.
By the way, rainwater tastes oddly like watermelon,

All For One
17 October 2008Not good.
So I stopped a cab.
Now on every taxi there is always this yellow sticker on the side window that says "Jemput Naik" or as a crude translation, "Welcome in".
So you'll be thinking it means "Welcome in so that I can get you where you need to be professionally, effectively, quickly and pleasantly"
WRONG.
It means "Welcome in so that you can hear me swear in six different languages at other drivers that I don't know as I pass down the road, speak in dialects you don't understand and grunt for my payment at the end of the trip"
Bah.
Oh, and on a happier note I've just watched
Yes, I know it's one month to SPM and I really have to study and yes I know the movie was already out half a year ago, but what the heck. I have more lined up for me. HA.
Toodles,

Isaiah 53:2-5
14 October 2008He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

Pictures!
There, the pictures =D
Oh If you don't see the significance of the two pictures, it's that we're wearing the same colours! Black and white. Geddit? Geddit??
And yes, I have small eyes. Big deal -_-" It's probably one of the better pictures I've taken since
So don't complain.

Flip a coin
12 October 2008I had this brilliant idea of wishing all the PMR people out there good luck in their exams but what the heck, they're not gonna read it until probably after the exams are over.
But go for it guys =) I'm sure you'll do great!
Oh and I suddenly have this overwhelming urge to take a trip over to London. Well I have to admit, it was only after reading Kenny Sia's blog and seeing all the nice photos from over there that I wanted to visit that part of the world.
But it looks so NICE! Soo... anyone up for a trip? =D
And this is how a particular MSN conversation with Victor Lai went.

This is what goes on in my house on Sunday night at 9.40pm.
Mom: Aik! Haven't filled car with petrol yet!
John: Supper?
Mom: Petrol.
John: Supper!
Mom: Petrol!
John: Supper!
Mom: *starts singing* Petrol!
John: *starts singing* Supper!
And they became one harmonious sound in the orchestra of petrol and supper. It sounded something like:
Supper! Petrol. Supper! Petrol. Supper! Supper! SUPPER!
Me: I'm so going to blog about this.
We should make a movie one day.

If you missed Dr Naomi Dowdy's conference, buy the CDs! =D Really, you'll never know when are you going to hear something that will so inspire you and change your life forever.
And more importantly, help me earn some cash lah.
Whoever said that there is no drama in church, they were wrong. Who would have thought that sticking a few stickers (if you consider 200+ few that is) could be so much fun?
Now it's always around this time when people start announcing on their blogs that they are not going to blog until SPM is over, not going to be online until SPM is over, not going to play games until SPM is over...
Yada, yada, yada
Not me though. So I guess we'll be seeing a lot of each other, eh? =P Well at least until December 29th, if you know what I mean.
Toodles,
Jo

I heart Jack Neo films
02 October 2008So yesterday my brother brought back this VCD (shh... don't tell), telling all of us, "Very nice one!! Very funny!"
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was on at 10pm, Batman Begins was on at 11.45pm. Choices, choices...
So in the end mom took the initiative to decide that we will all watch Money No Enough 2.
If you don't know who Jack Neo is, he is the same person who brought you
And also
I was initially quite skeptical about the film - it even has errors in its title! (Yes I know that it was intentional) And when the show started, I noticed that I couldn't understand the subtitles, PLUS they were speaking in some dialect that I don't understand.
So I went off to MSN.
And like I do to all movies I don't quite like, I only started watching it near the climax.
"It's all about sending a message..."
Like how wikipedia says it, "...help us to reflect at our own priorities while giving us a chance to laugh at ourselves."
If I were to come up with a list of my favourite films, all three will make it to my list - not because it has amazing action scenes or oscar-worthy actors, but because every one of his films has, in one way or another, taught me a very valuable lesson. After all, who can forget the importance of kind words after watching I Not Stupid Too?
"I'm not stupid. Really."
I love it for the same reason I love those Chinese short stories that I used to read - it can entertain you, it can make you laugh, but at the end of it all there is always a lesson to be learned.
After watching intense, thrilling, car-chasing, gun blazing, building collapsing films like The Dark Knight, it was a really, really relieving and fun film to watch.
You have just got to watch it for yourself =)
I really should be studying,
Jo

28 September 2008I should be freaking out over the fact that SPM is like in one and a half month's time. I should join the rest of the gang burying myself in books, buying workbooks, doing workbooks, tearing up workbooks and stuff like that.

No, it's not a trick question. Here we have people screaming over going bald and here I am willfully pulling it out strand by strand.

10 Years and Counting
08 September 2008So I was walking back from school just earlier today.
What with me and walking, I do not know. There was once, I remember, when I walked from my house to Saujana (4km, 50 minutes walk), sat there for a while, and walked back again, all in the name of burning time.
There was even once in the holidays when I got so bored, I came up with this crazy idea of scouting the area of Taman Yarl and drawing a map out of it. Then again, according to some friendster survey long ago my deadliest sin is sloth, so you guessed it - I've never went along with the plan.
I have never got that bored, see.
Anyway, back to me walking home.
I was just walking past this restaurant where I vividly remember tasting very bad yam cake, and that taste subconciously jumps up my throat whenever I look in the direction of that restaurant. Not very pleasant. They had good fish, though. I've never took the initiative to remember how the fish tasted.
Then there's this bend right around that said restaurant where I have to go left then a quick right and I will exit from the Happy Garden area to Taman Yarl. Then something to my right caught my eye.
Big. Yellow. Wheels. Windows. Open automatic door. Bored driver.
School bus.
That was when I noticed the print beside the words "Bas Sekolah" - a little picture of (presumably) a mother duck and three ducklings. And from there a whole stream of memories came flooding into my head.
This was the same bus I wanted to get on during my preschool years so badly because I wanted to follow my elder sister to school. I remember screaming and screeching, trying to pull away from the maid and just hop on the bus and be off with it. And by the time it zoomed off, leaving that trail of carbon smoke behind, I would be wailing already.
Strange. I never remember what happens before or after that.
That was also the same bus that drove me back and forth Tadika Happy Garden (was it?) when I was 5 or 6. There used to be this geeky kid who liked to stand near the open door as the driver drove at a full 50kmph on the roads. There was once when he got so excited upon the sight of his house, he literally hopped out of the bus.
The bus was still moving.
Within what might just have been the time it took to blink. the driver hit the brakes and already had one hand outside the open door, saving the kid from certain death.
We used to call it The Donald Duck bus, for a lack of better words. Thanks to cable TV, Duck + Blue = Donald Duck. So the Donald Duck bus it was.
And the driver? Uncle Donald. I've never got around to finding out his real name.
I remember the seat where I sat on and absent-mindedly left a Rm5 note on the chair and I just got off the bus, not knowing I had been sitting on it in my semi-slumber. It was only about three seconds after I got off the bus that I remembered.
Crap.
I also remember the good old days where we had Childrens' Day, and one day I was carrying this whole bag of goodies and was all ready to open it when I got home. I stuck my hand holding that bag out of the window...
Crap.
Then there was also this other time when I was absently sticking my hand out of the window when the bus brushed past some leaves, and so did my hand. Duh. Then I felt something slimy between my fingers.
I was rolling it around, wondering what was it for a good 10 seconds. Then I looked.
A little, furry worm was being rolled back and forth between my fingers - by my fingers.
Crap.
The next few moments of the bus is comical to look back upon now, but back there it was a moment of sheer terror. I immediately let go and snapped my hand back, and the furry little creature sailed right through the air-
-and landed on someone's bag.
"Kill it! KILL IT GAHH!!!"
So I grabbed my trusty 500ml Coke bottle and smashed it. And it laid there, squashed by the might of the 500ml Coke bottle, on the yellow bag on the seat in front of me.
I recall my sister saying something about the worm's intestitial fluids being corrosive enough to melt a hole through my bottle. I never saw that bottle again.
Whoa, that's a lot of memories.
So I was looking at the driver - that same old driver who had driven the same old bus with the same old configurations, and he was looking at his seemingly empty wallet. 10 years, and he did the same old, same old.
10 years... what dreams could he have possibly forsaken, all in the name of maintaining the little that he had and was contented with.
I walked until the bus was out of sight.
"I won't become like you" I muttered under my breath.

07 September 2008This is the movie that I watched 3 times in the same week.
Yeah I know the movie already came out since I was only 10 and 4 feet tall but man, those people can SING!
Having listened to Light and Easy (Lite fm) all my life, most of the songs came pretty familiar. It's super SUPER cool the feeling you get when they start singing and you go, "Hey, I know this song!!"
Oh, and while I was flipping through the newspaper yesterday, guess what I saw?
When I told my sis about it, she only had one thing to say.
"Is he singing again?"
LET'S DO SOME ADD MATHS!

Birthday?
02 September 2008I forgive you if you forgot that it was my birthday yesterday =)
No, that does not mean you don't have to get me my present.
*hint* *hint* =D
The day was pretty much uneventful. I woke up to the sound of my mom waking me up for my accounts tuition. So here we see two problems with that already.
1. Tuition class on my birthday?!
2. Mom? I thought you weren't home yet when I went to sleep last night at 2am!
So it turns out that my mom took off from the house in Raub at 6.30am in the morning and my accounts tuition teacher really don't know/don't care that it was my birthday. So off I went.
The fun started when I reached home.
I was just like minding my own business trying to walk into my house, then came this blue car and out came Kok Jen, Samuel and Laureen and they went all, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSEPH!!"
Go home lar.
So after they finally calmed down, there was this awkward silence that hung in the air. It was literally like, "...now what?"
But hey, it's the thought that counts right?
...right?
This is so deja vu from what I said about my sis' birthday last year.
I feel older already,
Jo

31 August 2008This had got to be the most uneventful Independance Day ever.
Probably it's the fact that I'm stuck at home alone with nowhere to go. Probably it's that I'm freaking out too much over the trials (which starts in two weeks' time by the way) to even care about it.
Well
Happy 51st birthday, Malaysia.

Restoration and detoxification
24 August 2008While the rest of the world watches the closing ceremony of probably THE most memorable Olympics ever...
It would be a good time for me to blog about Church Camp '08 while my mom is busy watching it. Heheheh.
This year's camp was by far one of my most memorable experiences ever. What with the food poisoning, half-basketball court, green swimming pool, Rm7 per hour only! internet connection, wild boars, dinner plate-sized moths and the giant TV at reception.
Just one of those times when I wish I had a camera.
The only other church camp that I went to was way back in 2004 in Cameron Highlands, where my snoring deprived Pastor Reuben of sleep for nights in a row. And in his own words,
"Jo Ng, go away. Go far, far away"
So after 4 years, I am finally back where it all started!
Will be back as soon as I get some pictures to show you.
To be continued,
Jo

And I thought my jokes were bad
19 August 2008
I'm gonna drive someone crazy soon if I don't stop impersonating The Joker's voice.
You know it's bad when you talk for two full hours and no one understands a word you say. But then, have you ever wondered how some people in their blogs they can rant on and on and on and on and on...
And never, ever stop.
Well at least not until I fall half-asleep in front of my computer screen trying to make heads or tails of what they're saying. The fact that Hillsong United's Solution is blasting on my speakers is not helping.
My sister just turned 19 yesterday. And like the circus that came during the latter part of yesterday said, "You're one year older!!"
So while they ripped the house apart guess what was I doing?
6/10 this one. Couldn't hear the dialouges coz the CD quality basically sucks.
What with the increasing population of ants in my house and the evolution of their diet I cannot understand. When I put my food on the table, it's alright. I put it on the floor, it's still alright. I put it in front my my monitor, it's still alright.
But when I put anything edible beside the keyboard, the ants are all over it like there's no tomorrow. You name it - curry, salad, prawns, mee hoon and even plain water!
Weirdos.
Better stop before I become like one of those bloggers I mentioned earlier.
Can't wait for Church Camp 08!
